Mineral Forum.
We all have that odd specimen that
eludes identification or that you would like more information on - so why not use the considerable
knowledge of the Russell Society membership to help you
find out more. This new section to the
Mineral Gallery was created in response to a request from a
member for help to identify the unknown mineral (shown
left) found at Wheal Busy near Redruth. This has now been identified and the details are on the Forum Page.
There are now requests for further information on specimens. Can you help with any information?. Click here to go to the Mineral Forum
UK and Ireland mineral photographs.
The Russell Society Mineral Gallery
primarily features photographs of minerals that have been
collected by members within the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The Gallery has grown considerably with photographs from
most areas of the UK being submitted. To reduce the overall
size of the page the Gallery is now divided into Russell
Society Branch areas, Scotland and Ireland allowing you
discover some of the wide variety of minerals that occur
within the UK and Ireland. Click here to go to the Mineral Gallery
Index. Some areas have no photographs at present - can you
help to rectify this?
Fluorescent mineral photographs.
Gavin Malcolm of the Southern
Branch has updated the Fluorescent Minerals Gallery. This
is now split into RS Branch areas and Scotland showing
fluorescent minerals from each area in the UK. You can also
learn a little about the wonderful phenomena of
fluorescence in minerals and view a set of photographs of
worldwide classic fluorescent minerals. Most of the
minerals are from Gavin's collection and many of the
British specimens have been collected on Russell Society
field trips. Click here to go to the
introduction.
Gavin has also compiled a comprehensive list of UK fluorescent mineral occurences giving full data on fluorescing colour, wavelength, associations and locations. Click here to go to the list. If you have any additions for the list you can e-mail them to Gavin.
Micro-mineral photographs.
The Gallery of Micro-minerals
now has more superb photomicrographs of minerals. As well
as the originals taken by Alan and Sue Edwards, Central
Branch, there are now pictures of Cornish specimens
submitted by new member Richard De Nul. The pictures by
Alan and Sue include some slag minerals not strictly
classed as minerals by the IMA but are beautiful all the
same and are collected by many mineralogists. Click here to go to the
micro-mineral gallery.
If you have any mineral pictures you would like to see published then please email them to who will include them on this page. Submission details are given below .
