Wales & West Branch

Minerals at Maisemore

Following the success of the event last year the Wales and West Branch of the Russell Society, in association with Cheltenham Mineral and Geological Society and the British Micromount Society, will be holding a second mineralogical get-together at Maisemore Village Hall in Gloucestershire (GL2 8EY), on Sunday 31st October from 10:00 to 16:00.

Several talks will be arranged on topics yet to be decided. There will be displays, sales tables and freebies, microscopes and UV lamps will also be available for use. A buffet lunch, tea and coffee will be served. This event is free to members of the Societies (but a small donation would be appreciated to help with costs).

Further details are available from Mr. Dave Wellings or Mrs. Marashean Parker. Their contact details are in the RS Membership List.

Russell Society Annual Social Meeting & AGM 2010.

The Society ASM will take place from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th April 2010. The event will be based in Durham at Collingwood College, where en-suite accommodation is available. We shall be meeting at the North Pennines Heritage Trust's centre in Nenthead on Friday afternoon from where we will be looking at the geology and mineralogy of the area and that around Killhope. On Saturday there will be table displays. The Northern Branch have become quite good at putting on displays of minerals from local mine sites and other branches are welcome to bring material along if they let us know in advance. Swapping would also be catered for. During the day we would expect to have a number of speakers, the AGM, a mineral auction (good specimens please) and a dinner (probably sit down rather than buffet). Sunday will be devoted to field meetings. We hope to include Coldstones Quarry, possibly Forcett Quarry and surface sites probably in North Yorkshire. We expect to get booking forms out around the end of the year. Contact me beforehand if you wish to reserve a place or for more information. Trevor Bridges.
