The Russell Society

The South-West Branch will be hosting the Russell Society Annual Social Meeting in 2012 at the Tremough Campus of the University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter in Cornwall, Falmouth, Cornwall over the long weekend Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd April inclusive.

Next year marks the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Russell Society, so it will be a really special ASM weekend with a host of activities, talks, field trips and a special nostalgia display. Members who attended the ASM in 2005 will already be familiar with the venue, which proved to be very good, and houses the collections of the Camborne School of Mines.

• Tuesday 4 October 2011: Mineral Identification & Display Evening – Again, this year’s winter programme kicks-off with a microscope and mineral identification evening. Please bring along microscopes, if you have them, and specimens (not just micros!), particularly those collected recently, to show-off and/or have identified.>
• Tuesday 1 November 2011: "Photography in Wheal Jane and other Mines" an illustrated lecture by John Peck, author of "Painting a Mine with light – a Pictorial history of Wheal Jane", published 2006. An opportunity to see John’s well illustrated presentation – try not to miss this one!
• Tuesday 6 December 2011: This meeting will be our Christmas Social event. This year's quiz will be courtesy of Jeremy Hooper – last year’s winner. Mince-pies with cream as well as pasties will be provided - so make sure you don't miss-out.
• January 2012: To be confirmed. A trip to a museum or similar will be arranged if possible. Details will be announced here as soon as we have anything confirmed.
• Tuesday 7 February 2012: Lecture, details of which are to be confirmed. Make sure you still enter the date in your diary as the details will be finalised shortly and posted here.
• Tuesday 6 March 2012: Branch Annual General Meeting. Our AGM will include the usual sumptuous buffet and Mineral Auction. Further details will be circulated early in 2012.
• Friday 20 to Sunday 22 April 2012: Branch The Branch will be hosting the Society ASM at Tremough Campus, Falmouth.
